Service Design in Public Libraries

This thesis deals with service design in public libraries. The theses consists of a theoretical part and a practical part. The theoretical part describes the services in public libraries. Then basics and principles of design services are introduced. This is followed by an overview of service design tools and methods suitable for use in libraries. The practical part analyzes services of the Matěj Josef Sychra Library from a user perspective, using tools and methods of service design and some possible improvements of these services are suggested.
Public Library Services for Visually Impaired: An Analysis

The diploma thesis deals with the issue of public library services for visually impaired users. Firstly, the thesis provides a theoretical introduction to the topic. It describes several projects related to the topic, activities of chosen non-profit organizations and fundamental legislation. Secondly, the thesis focuses on provision of library services for visually impaired in public libraries in the Czech Republic and abroad. The practical part of the thesis consists of an analysis of four Czech public libraries and of a qualitative research. Finally, the findings are summarized into several recommendations which could help libraries successfully offer services for visually impaired users.
Methods for measuring service quality in university libraries: a case study of libraries AMU and JAMU

This thesis examines the issue of measuring the quality of services from a theoretical and practical perspectives. It's trying to define the term quality in the context of library services, particular performance indicators used in practice and try to provide an overview of the possibilities of its measurement in the Czech environment as well as abroad. It describes methods Balanced ScoreCard, Benchmarking, Total Quality Management, ServQUAL and SWOT analysis, which originally came from the commercial sector and Benchmarking of libraries, Bibliotheksindex and LibQUAL +, which were created directly for a field of librarianship. It also maps the various activities in this field at national and international level. The practical part of the thesis consists of a survey in two selected libraries performed on the basis of three selected methods of quality measurement: Benchmarking of libraries, Bibliotheksindex and SWOT analysis. In conclusion of the thesis is based on the information gathered from own experience and practice created a general framework for service quality, the possibility of increasing quality and it's measurement in academic libraries.
Non-book material loan in selected libraries - exploration of effectivity

The aim of this thesis is to find out information about non-book material loans in Czech libraries whose variety has been extended. Theoretical part deals with library services focused on less conventional services. Second part focuses on exploration of occurrence and details of these services in Czech libraries. Research is carried out through online questionnaires. Selected libraries will be examine in greater detail. Library statistics, interviews with librarians and patrons, analysis of design and marketing will be used with intention to create case studies. Courts libraries in the Czech Republic

Aim of this bachelor's thesis is to characterize the current state of judicial libraries in the Czech Republic. Judicial system in the Czech Republic and the organization of court libraries are described in this work. Aim of this bachelor's thesis is to find out how and by whom are court libraries managed, how big is their fund, who is in charge of the library and what services they provide for judges. Libraries selected for the comparison are library of the Constitutional Court in Brno, Library of the Czech Supreme Court and the Library of the Arbitration Court in Prague. The analysis of society attitudes and the access of libraries to the disabled people

This study focuses on disabled users of public libraries. First, general attitude towards physically handicapped people is analyzed on the basis of literature review. Furthermore, past surveys were utilized in order to describe attitudes demonstrated by library staff in particular as well as approach taken by the libraries in order to ease access for disabled users to library services. Analysis is complemented by overview of current projects aimed to improve accessibility of libraries including communication facilities and tools overcoming construction barriers. General principles of barrier-free access to libraries are derived from this overview. The field survey in the second part of this study evaluates accessibility of selected libraries from the point of view of disables users. The sample focused particularly on libraries which have not been reviewed yet. Particular conditions in each library classify the respective institution to the corresponding category of accessibility. Derived knowledge was published on website of Pražská organizace vozíčkářů, o.s. (Prague wheelchair association, NGO).

Community functions of public libraries as one means of getting potential readers

Purpose of this thesis is to chart the area of community activities. The first part is theoretical. Main focus is on introduction into basic terms, and description of providing community services to the public, especially with regard to specific needs of target groups. Also promotional tools are given a brief part, as well as community activities realised abroad; following by specific examples of community activities of selected public libraries in region of Central Bohemia. The final part of the thesis analyses results of questionnaire focused on community activities provided by public libraries of Central Bohemia region as perceived not only by users, but also library staff.
